TANGO NOW ALSO FOCUSES ON ELECTRIC DRIVING
The Hague, August 25 2020 - Tango, under the name of Tango electric, will be placing maximum focus on the expansion of its EV charging network in the coming years. A growing number of Tango electric charging points is to be installed not just at their own stations but also in the car parks of, amongst others, shopping centres, retail businesses and companies. “Our aim is to offer our customers services with an eye to the future and for every form of mobility”, Sven Dochez, Director Sustainable Fuels at Q8, explains.
As early as 2017, Tango’s parent company Q8 took its first steps in e-mobility with the installation of fast chargers at various stations in Belgium. Early last year the first ultra-fast chargers were introduced along Belgian motorways in collaboration with Ionity. The company is now taking the next step by setting up its own charging network in the Netherlands with Tango electric.
Harderwijk gets Tango electric premiere
Tango’s existing service-stations provide the perfect platform to start building their own charging network. Charging points will become an integral part of the product offer. Early March the Harderwijk station was the first to be fitted with two fast chargers under the canopy to offer customers that familiar experience when charging their electric vehicle: simple, clean, fast and safe.
Extensive charging network with the Tango electric app
With a growing number of charging points Tango electric aims to help electric drivers make the transition from fossil fuels to electric driving. Tango electric drivers can use their Tango electric charging pass throughout our very extensive partner network. At present the Tango electric charging pass gives you access to 80% of all charging points in the Benelux (45,000 in total), of which 30,000 are located in the Netherlands. Tango electric’s ultimate goal is being able to travel and charge throughout Europe on a single charging pass.
Charging where you park your car
The ambitious plans go beyond fitting existing locations with fast chargers. As Tango wants to contribute to a fast charging network with nationwide coverage and aims to expand the electric infrastructure, stand-alone chargers have been developed that can be installed in various locations, including locations of retail partners and businesses. Dochez explains this choice: “We realise that electric divers don’t just recharge their batteries at filling stations. To ensure maximum convenience for our customers we also want to provide them with access to Tango chargers in different locations. For instance, you can easily and quickly charge your car while shopping, or while you’re at work. Moreover, businesses can have Tango chargers installed at their employees’ homes.”
Total solution for business drivers and fleet managers
Tango electric also offers a total solution for business drivers and fleet managers through an online portal combined with an offer of AC chargers and corresponding services. The portal gives fleet managers all the necessary tools to manage their electric fleet. Tango electric installs the AC charging points in business locations and at EV drivers’ homes. As these chargers are directly connected with the Tango electric portal, the home charging sessions are reimbursed via Tango electric on a monthly basis.
Mobility hubs
In addition to partnerships with Dutch retail businesses Tango is also examining the possibility of creating charging squares: places with more than two charging points situated at hubs in municipalities and regions in order to accommodate multiple electric drivers at the same time. “These so-called mobility hubs offer drivers a high degree of charging certainty thanks to the presence of multiple charging points and we can cater to different charging needs. We are examining if we can install other energy-neutral mobility services at these mobility hubs that will allow you, for instance, to head into town while your car is charging”, Dochez concludes.
Broad range of mobility services
Following the launch of the collaboration with, amongst others, the Dutch car sharing platform SnappCar, the expansion of the charging network signifies another major step for Tango in their transformation from a traditional petroleum player into a mobility player. Dochez: “With Tango electric we are placing maximum focus on offering a broad range of future-oriented mobility services in order to make our customer journeys even more sustainable.”

About Tango
Tango is a part of Q8 and is the founder of the unmanned filling market segment in the Netherlands. Since the opening of its first unmanned petrol station in 2000 in Nijmegen, Tango has been developing its nationwide network of, currently, 196 petrol stations. In addition, Tango was the first brand to open unmanned petrol stations along major motorways. Convenience, speed and price are at the heart of Tango’s strategy. Tango’s unmanned stations have made smart refilling a household concept but today Tango focuses on reaching your destination in a smart way. Tango does this through ultra-rapid charging points with Tango electric, an app to find them, a car insurance where you only pay for the kilometres driven and by making car sharing appealing in conjunction with SnappCar. It is Tango’s ambition to continue its development into a versatile mobility-oriented service provider.
